4th grade started the school year by reviewing notes. We played rhythm wars using our "light sabers" (pool noodles!). We took one day of music class to have a choice day! Students could choose to explore the xylophones and create a song, they could choose to write song lyrics, or read a music book! Students are preparing to play recorder by learning the line and space notes. We have some fun fall and spooky activities planned for October!
Fourth graders did an awesome job playing recorder with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra! Checkout a couple of videos on CLI music facebook page! We are continuing to play recorders for the next few weeks. So far we have learned notes BAGC and D! Fourth graders are so excited about our upcoming interactive link-up orchestra concert with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra! Our field trip to the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center to see the TSO is Thursday, February 16th. Check out some of the videos below to see what we are learning! We are not only singing, but playing recorder WITH the TSO too! We will be sitting in the audience along with 1000 other 3rd and 4th graders from other BA schools while we sing along with the orchestra! (in other words- we won't be going on stage.) It's going to be a fabulous, rocking concert! (Because the auditorium will be packed- this is a field trip for students and teachers only.) Don't forget, the family concert that parents and students can attend is February 26th 2:15PM at Union PAC. You can still purchase tickets here! Meet the Conductor, Ron Spigelman and host, Liz Hunt! You can practice singing, "Come to Play" with this video! Don't forget which part you sing! Watch this video to practice the Latin for O Fortuna by Carl Orff. Play along with the "Anvil Chorus" on recorder! Play along on your recorder to In the Field Stood a Birch Tree. Watch this video to learn more about Holst's The Planets- Mars Fourth graders finished up playing recorders and have moved on to playing instruments, learning a new dancing song called "Jump Jim Joe," and a hand clapping song from Zimbabwe called "Sorida." They have also been studying about our composer of the month for March and April and played a fun dice game while listening to pieces written by Johann Sebastian Bach.
November has flown by! This month in music we finished up practicing our military branch songs and sang them for Veterans at our Veteran's Day assembly. Great job singing 4th grade! We started learning the note names on the treble clef staff in order to prepare for playing the recorder. We even played a note game using smarties candy! Check out the picture below! Click on the recorder page for more information about recorders. Students can also check out the GAMES page to play fun games that reinforce the names of the notes on the staff. Our composer we've been studying this month is John Phillip Sousa.
This month in music class, we are learning the songs for the different branches of the military to sing at our Veteran's Day assembly! We are learning the notes on the staff in preparation to play the recorder. We are also learning about composer, Camille Saint-Saens. We practiced keeping the beat by playing a stick passing game from Ghana called Obwisana. Check out the video below!
During August and September, 5th grade has been playing fun name games and songs, learning the procedures for the music room, reviewing the school song, and playing classroom instruments such as xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels! We have also been practicing creative movement to go along with our instruments. For September we are learning about our composer of the month, Clara Schumann.
