5th graders began playing recorders after spring break. They have learned the notes B, A and G and are playing to earn their "white belt" in recorder karate! They have also been learning about our March and April composer of the month.
5th Grade had an awesome performance at the PAC! Great job! Thanks to the 5th grade teachers, administrators and parents for all of their support and help! I can't wait to see what next years 5th graders can do!
Now that our performance is over, 5th grade will be working on a couple of new instrument pieces to learn some new music concepts. We will also begin learning notes on the staff to prepare for playing the recorder next month! If you'd like to purchase your own recorder, check out the RECORDER page for more information! Our 5th grade students are performing a program titled "Traveling Through Africa" on Thursday, January 28th. Because we have such a large group of 5th graders, group A will perform at 6:30 and group B will perform at 7:30. We will be performing at the Broken Arrow PAC. We hope you can make it! GROUP A- Hutton, Thomas, Davidson, Duvall, Hansen GROUP B- Scott, Williams, Baker, Bennett, Pierce
This month we have been practicing for our January performance (info coming home soon!) We've played xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, drums and other percussion instruments. We've been transitioning our counting to using numbers instead of syllables to prepare for instrument and choir classes in middle school. We finished up practicing our military branch songs for our Veteran's Day assembly and did an awesome job singing for our Veteran guests! This month we are studying composer John Phillip Sousa.
This month in music class, we are learning the songs for the different branches of the military to sing at our Veteran's Day assembly! We practiced different rhythms by playing a fun game called "Rhythm Wars," and we also played a fun stick passing game. This month we are talking about composer, Camille Saint-Saens.
During August and September, 5th grade has been playing fun name games and songs, learning the procedures for the music room, the school song, and playing classroom instruments such as xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels! We have also been practicing creative movement to go along with our instruments. For September we are learning about our composer of the month, Clara Schumann.
